Palermo, Sicily, 7th November 2007. Italian Police raid a meeting of high-ranking mafia officials at the secret hideout of Salvatore Lo Piccolo – known as The Baron – a 65 year old gangster who is suspected to be the Sicilian boss of bosses.  Strewn amongst pistols, Cuban cigars and bottles of bourbon are dozens of cryptic, typewritten documents. As police furiously break the coded messages, they realise they have in their possession a set of rules for being a good Mafioso; in effect they have stumbled upon The Ten Commandments of the Mafia.  The Sicilians may still strive to live up to these traditional rules.  But their sons and grandsons across the Atlantic have been more wayward – many believe with devastating results.
