Saturday 24 March saw the premier of the first episode of new entertainment show, The Voice UK. Already a global hit, the show scooped record ratings on its first night of release in the UK.

With Jessie J, Sir Tom Jones, Danny O'Donoghue and will.i.am as coaches, the first episode pulled in a peak audience of 9.8 million viewers, with an average of 8.4 million throughout. Additionally, during the twenty minute overlap in which BBC One and ITV went head-to-head, The Voice averaged 8.9 million viewers, almost 2.5 million more than its rival.

Blowing away the previous debuts of Strictly Come Dancing, Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor by almost 3 million, the show was a roaring success, with a massive 214,393 unique users voicing their opinions about the show on Twitter.
