The focus of Wall to Wall’s factual entertainment series, The People’s Supermarket has claimed the prize for the best Local Retailer at the Observer Ethical awards 2011.

The ceremony, known as the “Green Oscars” took place at the Victoria & Albert Museum and recognises businesses which put the environment first and have sustainability at their heart. The winner of the Local Retailer category could be any local retailer with three or fewer branches.

Airing on Channel 4, The People’s Supermarket followed chef and eco-restaurateur Arthur Potts Dawson as he began his mission to rival the big supermarkets with a new model which serves good cheap food and is fair to both the customer and producer. Based in Holborn, London, the supermarket acts as a sustainable food cooperative and since its inception, it has continued to grow its members base and business as a whole.
