Broadcast today reported on our new scripted coproduction:

UK firm teaming up with Warner Bros Finland and Kate Ashfield for psychological thriller

Wall to Wall and British screenwriter Kate Ashfield are attached to Man in Room 301, a new drama for a Finnish SVoD service.

Who Do You Think You Are? producer Wall to Wall will partner with Warner Bros. Television cousin Warner Bros International Television Production Finland, Greek producer Inkas Film & TV and Finnish entertainment service Elisa Viihde, which commissioned the series.

Born to Kill creator Ashfield has written the psychological thriller, which follows a Finnish family whose lives are drastically changed one summer’s night before the secrets of that evening later unravel during a family holiday to Greece.

Man in Room 301 will feature a cast of leading Finnish actors including Antti Virmavirta (The Other Side of Hope) and Kaija Pakarinen (Devil’s Bride, Love and Fury) and is directed by Mikko Kuparinen.

Eleanor Greene will exec produce for Wall to Wall, which is part of Warner Bros Television Production UK. The series is due to premiere on Elisa Viihde’s streaming service Aitio in December, with French sales house About Premium Content handling international distribution.

“This was a unique experience to create an original series for Finland – to delve into another culture and write about universal themes involving a family with their own secrets whilst at the same time exploring the similarities and differences we have,” said Ashfield.

“In the end, experiencing the cultural differences became one of the biggest joys of the whole job as I could never quite foresee the ideas and notes that would come back to us from Finland.”

Greene added that co-producing with WBITVP Finland and Elisa Viihde enabled Wall to Wall to “create a show that was both unique to the territory but also had a British storytelling sensibility”.

“In a short period of time, Elisa Viihde has grown into one of the most important makers of original series in Finland, and its these shows that are becoming our most popular content,” said Ani Korpela, the service’s head of content. “It is wonderful to be developing Finnish drama on an international level.””
