BBC factual commits to nations and regions

Travelogues fronted by Nadiya Hussain and Fred Sirieix feature on a hefty factual slate of more than 100 hours’ worth of BBC shows.

The corporation’s factual controller Alison Kirkham told Broadcast that the commissions demonstrate her division’s commitment to a “plurality of suppliers across the UK, with a plurality of voices”.

She added: “We want our output to be made by suppliers across the length and breadth of the country, and this announcement is us celebrating that and encouraging a flow of ideas.”

Leading the slate is Wall to Wall West’s BBC1 2 x 60-minute series Nadiya’s Asian Odyssey travelogue, in which Nadiya Hussain will travel to Thailand, Cambodia and Nepal, exploring her family connections along the way and seeking the region’s best culinary delights.

Kirkham said the show would “delve deeper into Hussain’s identity”, describing the GBBO-winner-turned-presenter as “phenomenal factual talent”.
